I am an addict of Britain's Got Talent.
This admission is hard for me to make but it is true. I love this show.
I squirm, I laugh, I am appalled and I am thrilled.
Alright, some of these acts do not have talent. They are awful. I am left wondering how they could possibly have thought that they had something special. There was a man a few weeks ago who thought he could get through to the final and have the opportunity to perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety Show because he could eat not one, not two, not three but four Fererro Roche in a minute. I can do that, no problem. I just have. Quick. Someone call Simon Cowell!
But many of these people are hugely talented. And not only that. They have worked very hard.
It warms my heart to see young people (by and large) who are willing to work so hard, dedicating themselves to perfection, working with others in a team and showing such good manners to the other contestants, the judges and often, their own parents.
It is all too easy to say that today's young people are lazy, want everything on a plate, have no concept of hard work and no idea about manners. But when you see young adults like these with qualities that would shame many of the older generation you realise that all is not lost by any means.
In your company there are people who are studying for degrees in their spare time, singing in choirs, performing in concerts, learning a language, stretching themselves to achieve physical challenges...but do you know about this? Do you know who these people are? And are you making the most of what they can offer to you and the people your company serves?
Your company has talent...and it's your job to seek it out.
