I started this blog at the end of 2008 because I had success on the brain. I had finished writing my new book, The Recipe for Success, earlier in the year, and was starting to prepare for its publication.
Now that date is upon us. The Recipe for Success is out on Tuesday of next week. You can order it now on amazon or wait until Tuesday. Either way, buy it.
Why? Because whatever you thought it took to be successful will be called in to question. There are no cliches, no accepted wisdoms, nothing taken for granted. Instead I started with an open mind, asking the question "What do they have that the rest of us want?"
And the answer to that question surprised me.
For instance, number one ingredient in the Recipe for Success...anyone want to take a guess? What did all my experts (all enablers, star makers and key holders...people who make it possible for other people to succeed) identify as absolutely vital?
Talent? No. Hard work? No. Political savvy? No.
Good manners. yes. Saying please and thank you, a handwritten note when someone needs a boost or praise, introducing people properly, that kind of thing.
Talent, hard work and political savvy are in there of course. But the very first ingredient my experts mentioned to me was manners. And that took me by surprise.
Not all the ingredients are as "soft" and this. and you may feel, having read it, that the conventionally successful can keep it. You'd rather stick where you are!
But either way, read the book. Tell your friends. And then come back here and share your views on my conclusions!
